abstract

statement of problem: despite the increasing demand for tooth-colored restorations in dentistry, polymerization shrinkage and marginal microleakage still remains a problem. objectives: the purpose of the present study was to evaluate microleakage in three different resin composites, p90, z250 and z250 xt, in class v cavity of permanent human premolars. materials and methods: standardized class v cavities were prepared on the buccal surface of 45 extracted human premolars. the occlusal margins of cavities were prepared at the enamel and gingival margins extending 1mm below the cementoenamel junction. the teeth were randomly assigned into three groups (n=15) and preparations restored with three different composites following the manufacturer instructions: group a, filtek z250 (microhybrid composite) with adper single bond total etch adhesive system; group b, filtek z250 xt (nanohybrid) with adper single bond total etch adhesive system;group c, filtek p90 (silorane) with its self-etch adhesive system (p90 system adhesive). its adhesive system (p90 system adhesive). the teeth were then subjected to thermal cycles (1000 cycle, 5° and 55°c ± 2°c) with a dwell time of 30 seconds, and immersed in 2% basic fuchsine for 24 hours. longitudinally sectioned teeth were examined under the stereomicroscope. kruskal-wallis and mann-whitney u test at 95% significance level were used. results: filtek z250xt showed significantly higher microleakage than the other two composites ( p <0.001). however, there was no statistically significant difference between p90 and filtek z250 ( p =0.217). conclusions: although all of the restorative systems had microleakage, silorane-based composite showed less microleakage compared to two other methacrylate-based composites.

Microleakage evaluation of silorane based composite versus methacrylate based composite

AIM Our study aimed to analyze the microleakage of silorane-based composite in comparison to two homologous methacrylate-based composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS Standardized class I cavities (4 × 2.5 × 3 mm) were prepared on extracted human premolars and randomly assigned into three groups (N = 15) as follows: Group A, Filtek P90 (silorane) with its dedicated adhesive system (P90 system adhes...

Microleakage of Class V Methacrylate and Silorane-based Composites and Nano-ionomer Restorations in Fluorosed Teeth

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Enamel and dentin marginal sealing ability of the new adhesive materials could play an important role in successful restoration on fluorosed teeth. PURPOSE The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal microleakage of low-shrinkage silorane-based composite, nano-ionomer, and methacrylate-based composite through self-etching approach or with enamel acid e...

A comparative evaluation of microleakage of restorations using silorane-based dental composite and methacrylate-based dental composites in Class II cavities: An in vitro study

AIM The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the microleakage of restorations using low shrinkage silorane-based dental composite and methacrylate-based dental composites in Class II cavity at the occlusal and gingival margins. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty mandibular molars were collected and divided into three experimental groups and one negative control group. Class II slot...

A Review of Silorane and Methacrylate Based Composites and Effective Factors on Microleakage of them

Introduction: An important disadvantage of current dental resin composites is their polymerization shrinkage and production of microleakage. This shrinkage can cause tooth sensitivity, marginal discoloration, and secondary caries. The objective of this study was to review the effective factors on microleakage of methacrylate and silorane composites and compare them with each other. This review...

Microleakage of Silorane-based Resin Composite in Comparison with Methacrylate-based Composite in Class II

Introduction: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of different monomer systems on microleakage in class II composite open sandwich restorations with and without a separating agent placed between the nanofilled resin modified glass ionomer and the resin. Materials and methods: Class II cavity preparations were prepared in maxillary premolars (n = 240) and the cervical limit of the p...
